I LOVE handprints… maybe that is why I have so many on my walls that haven’t been washed off yet!! LOL! There is nothing like holding those sweet little hands in mine. This Family Hand Print is the perfect Mother’s Day project because it shows the entire family layered in construction paper hands… what could be better? I’ll tell ya… you probably have all of the supplies in your house already so if you’re a last minute gift giver, this is for you!

Bananas Foster French Toast


The perfect sweet treat to make for a special mom on Mother's Day!

Ingredients:
4 eggs
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoon vanilla extract - divided
8 slices whole grain bread bread
2 bananas, sliced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter
1 tablespoon dark rum or rum extract - optional
powdered sugar
Oil

Directions:
Crack eggs into medium size shallow bowl, beat lightly with a fork. Add milk and 1 tsp vanilla, stir well.

In May we continue our exploration of photography and composition with “Leading Lines.” The eye naturally follows the lines it sees. How can we capture or create lines in our images that will lead the viewer through our photograph?
Students will build their understanding of photography from one class to the next, gaining confidence through repetition of how-to steps. Led by Stephen and Alexandria, these youth workshops teach kids to operate a camera, compose photographs, use light and shadow, look at shots from different angles, and consider color in their shots, to name just a few of the elements that make photography intriguing and fun.

Saturday, May 12 - Dinosaur Discovery Day

An open house will celebrate earth resources, earth history, and International Astronomy Day. At the visitor center geologists and paleontologists will present hands-on activities including fossil, mineral and rock ID, fossil sieving, fossil scribing, fossil digging, gold panning, metal detecting, map reading, and analyzing groundwater. More scientists will speak at the world-famous track site and bone site and at 10 other sites on the Dinosaur Ridge Trail. Astronomy activities will include solar observing, searching for iron meteorites, finding the north star in daytime, an interactive sundial, an enormous model solar system, and an introduction to the Milankovitch cycles.

Let the Babies Boogie!
It is Sunday afternoon and the kids are restless. What do you do? We know a place, the perfect location, in Old Town Arvada on Grandview Avenue called the D Note. Every Sunday the kids, from 1 month to 12 years old, come and enjoy music, both by listening to it, playing it and dancing to it. Parents relax at their tables, watching the kids dance and play together - great entertainment in and of itself. The children make new friends and greet some old ones. Some even make this a weekly gathering spot.
