Emma plays at The Wolf Theatre through May 5. Yes, you absolutely must go.

I don't want to spoil this show for you.

Unfortunately, this is a bit of a difficult situation for a writer to be in.

I want so badly to tell you all about Emma because it was literally one of the best shows I have seen in years. But I can't.

I want to tell you why I genuinely laughed SO MANY TIMES during Emma. But I can't.

I want to tell you why you will be so surprised when you watch Emma. But.... you guessed it. I can't.

What I can tell you is that you should most definitely NOT miss Emma. Jane Austin's work can be a bit daunting, but I am telling you... you will all but forget that the actors are speaking in that 'old-timey" language, and that the story was written over 200 years ago. It's worth checking out, I promise. In fact, I am pretty sure that I will be going again before it wraps up its run on May 5.

Yes, it's THAT good.

Go!

A delightfully unconventional and fun adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic comedy.

Ever the romantic, Emma Woodhouse prides herself on being the best matchmaker in town. Goaded by her friend George Knightley, she sets out on a quest to set up the adorable ingénue Harriet with a fitting suitor. But love has its own agenda with plenty of twists and turns in store – including a few for Emma herself.

This rendition of Emma is a joyous, irreverent take in conversation with the Regency novel. In a new adaptation that’s a bit zany and refreshingly contemporary, playwright Kate Hamill infuses the language and perspectives of today into Austen’s beloved characters. You may be surprised by who says what — and how. One thing’s for sure, you’ll never see Emma the same way again.

Recommended for ages 12+.
